CASE STUDY No. 1:

A Space for Kids of All Ages

Problem:

A family with a daughter in preschool and sons in high school wanted a play space that all of their children could enjoy, and that would grow with their family. They wanted natural materials only and were uninterested in pre-fabricated play equipment.

Solution:

I proposed a design with three structures that could be utilized by kids and adults of all ages: a round swing, an open-fronted structure for everything from tea parties to homework, and an obstacle course made of logs harvested from a dead tree on the property.

A design rendering of the garden, including the play structure (left), which is shown here with two adults chatting, the obstacle course (center), which featured recycled logs at varying heights, and the large swing (right).
